faraja programmes
Faraja
Young Women Development Organization (FAYOWODO) is a community based
organization, providing vocational training and livelihood to the young women, girls and early
childhood education. The organization is commonly known as FARAJA. The Swahili word „Faraja “means relief and
comfort.
The act of torture against women and children,
rape and dowry is happening on regular basis in Arusha like other regions of
Tanzania. The main victims of this situation are mainly women and girl child of
distress family. Most of them cannot take legal aid due to the torture,
pressure in the society and family, harassment, ignorance about law, and
scarcity of money. In this situation, FAYOWODO has been supporting legal aid to
the women and children victims from the very beginning. The legal aid and
education program was implemented with the help of internal and external donors. We provide medical assistance to all girls, young mothers and
their children. For those who have experienced trauma, such as severe physical
or sexual abuse, we offer counselling with social workers and psychologists. We
also work with lawyers in trying to achieve justice for the girls by taking
their individual cases to court as well as creating awareness regarding personal health
care.
FAYOWODO envisions a society full of protected and empowered young women,
taking their own initiatives towards self-fulfilment and sustainable social and
economic developÂment.
FAYOWODO is
thus undertaking the task of promoting human transformation, human rights and gender equality and equity by improÂving knowledge through education, health, livelihood and
sustainable development to vulnerable women and girls.
To attain equal
participation with a right to live with justice fulfilled basic needs.
